Braywood Cricket Club - Junior Cricket

Welcome to Braywood Juniors

We have a growing and popular Juniors section at Braywood Cricket Club.

Our coaching sessions are on Sunday mornings from 10 till 12 at our private ground on the boundary between Fifield and Oakley Green, just to the west of Windsor. Sessions run from 28th April until 25th August 2019. There is a Registration Fee of £45 per child which covers all the season's Sunday sessions and all Juniors matches.

Children may join from age 6 (in Year 1 at school) or older and enjoy a fun introduction to the game using soft balls and plastic bats. When children have gained enough confidence they progress to playing with a hard ball and we provide all the protective kit to ensure this transition is safely made. As the young cricketers develop their skills further they embark on net practice sessions.

We have Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and an Under 15 teams playing in the Berkshire Youth Cricket League.

It is important to us that the children in Braywood Juniors enjoy learning their cricket in a safe environment and we have our own Club Welfare Officer who oversees the implementation of our Safeguarding Policy. Any issues relating to child welfare would be dealt with by the Club Welfare Officer fully confidentially.

If you need more information about Braywood Juniors or would like to try one of our sessions, without obligation, you should contact our Juniors Manager.

BRAYWOOD JUNIORS CRICKET INFORMATION FOR 2019

• Our aim – is to provide a safe and friendly place for your child to learn cricket and have fun doing so.

• Our coaching team – many of us are qualified through the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and all of us are DBS checked for working with children, through the ECB. We are all volunteers.

• Welfare of your children – we have a Safeguarding Policy, available on our website, which sets out our commitment to ensuring that children have a safe and positive experience learning cricket at our club. Katherine Sweatman is our Club Welfare Officer and she is the point of contact if you or your child has any concerns that you wish to report, fully confidentially.

• Our season – We hold coaching sessions on Sunday mornings, 10 – 12, from 28th April until 25th August. Matches are played either on Sunday mornings or midweek evenings - see our fixtures list.

• Our registration fee – £45 for the season, covering coaching sessions and matches. These can be paid by cash or cheque.

• Enrollment – As you may not be sure whether our sessions are suitable for your child, we encourage you to bring them along for a taster session, entirely without obligation. We will ask you to complete a Taster Session form so we have your contact details. At the following session we will need to complete our Annual Registration form and pay the fee. The form can be printed from our website or collected on Sunday morning.

• Cricket clothing – you do not need to buy kit and equipment for our sessions. If you are trying a taster session before committing to a full season then any casual wear and trainers are suitable. We like players to wear a white top. We encourage recycling of second-hand kit and we sell donated items to members. Braywood branded kit is available through the Club Shop.

• Cricket kit – we provide bats, pads, boxes, batting gloves, wicket-keeping gloves and helmets.

• Cricket bats – if you buy your own, please avoid buying one that is too big or too heavy as this restricts the learning of good batting technique. We are happy to advise and guide before you buy.

• Hang on to your kit – Please mark your own kit with your name, including sweaters, caps, bats, gloves, boxes, helmets and water bottles.

• Sun and heat protection – We recommend players wear a hat or cap and use sun block skin protection. We have a mid-session break for drinks and provide tap water for all.

• Weather problems – if it rains we may call off the session. If it looks like the session will be unable to start, you should check the website for News Updates.

• Management – of Braywood Juniors is in the hands of our Juniors Committee comprising the club members listed above.

• Communication with you – Our website has a page for Juniors. We update the News feed when we can and this is recommended for getting the latest information. Email is our preferred medium for communicating with parents, including for match arrangements (obtaining availability and notifying selection).
